Kentuck Gallery presents a group show of artists from the Crossroads Arts Alliance of Gordo, Alabama.The opening reception will take place on Art Night, July 1, 2010 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.The CAA consists of Rhys Greene, Suzanne Gray, Glenn House, Sr., Butch House, Melba Hollingsworth, Jessica Peterson, Barbara Lee Black, Amos Paul Kennedy, Jr., Barbara Pennington, and Kathleen Fetters.The exhibit will be on display until July 31, 2010.
In addition to the opening reception, there will be music by Ian Bittner in the Kentuck Courtyard.Art Night participants will enjoy fresh made bread and pizzas from the cob oven.Kentuck encourages participants to bring an item(s) to donate to the newest Kentuck mosaic.
Also beginning at 5 p.m. on July 1, the Kentuck Annex Gallery presents an exhibition of traditional hand-made quilts by Mrs. Beatrice Moore.Mrs. Moore, who is 106 years old, has been quilting since 1917.She will be honored with a reception in the Annex on Saturday, July 17, from noon until 2 p.m., in conjunction with Kentuck’s July a la cARTe.
An exhibit of bookbinding tools by Randy Arnold will also be on display in the Kentuck Annex during July Art Night.Randy Arnold is a luthier, someone who makes and repairs stringed instruments, living in Northport, Alabama, and is the third generation of his family to work with wood.In addition to musical instruments, Randy also creates handcrafted bookbinders’ tools.Randy works in the wood shop that his grandfather built in the early 1940’s, using many of his grandfather’s tools.
The Annex will host the presentation of the Tuscaloosa Chamber of Commerce TuscaloosaCountyPhoto Contest from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. during Art Night.
July a la cARTe - July 17, 12pm to 2pm
The Kentuck Museum Association invites the public to its next a la cARTe, July 17, 2010, from noon to 2pm in the Kentuck Annex.The July a la cARTe will feature demonstrations by local jewelry artists, sweet and savory pies by PieLab, Kentuck for Kids jewelry-making activities, as well as a reception honoring quilter Mrs. Beatrice Moore.
Mrs. Beatrice Moore, who is 106 years old, has been quilting since 1917.Her exhibit of traditional handmade quilts is currently on display in the Annex Gallery and will be open for viewing during July a la cARTe.
Also in the Annex, local jewelry artists Celia O’Kelley, Walter Moore, Connie Abbott, Linda Munoz, and Charlie Munoz will be demonstrating their craft and selling their work.
PieLab, a unique pie shop engaging the community with art, ideas, and conversation in Greensboro, Alabama, will be catering the event with sweet and savory pies, ice cream, and salad.McAlister’s Deli of Northport donates tea and lemonade for the series.Lunch proceeds go toward maintenance of the Kentuck campus: the cost is $10 per person with a $40 cap per household.
At the Kentuck for Kids area, children can make original jewelry to wear and take home.

Kentuck studio artists will host their monthly Open Studios for visitors to see works in progress, meet the artists, and see the actual workspaces where the artists apply materials, design, technique and equipment to the creative process.Kentuck Studio artists are Ann Betak, Steve Davis, Brian Evans, Kerry Kennedy, Justin Robinson, Karen Schlesinger, and Lackey Stephens.
Art Night is funded in part by a grant from The Arts and Humanities Council of Tuscaloosa.

39th Annual Kentuck Festival of the Arts
The Kentuck Festival, nationally recognized for its quality and diversity, celebrates a variety of artistic styles ranging from folk to contemporary arts as well as traditional crafts. Each of the 250+ artists participating in the Festival is either invited as a guest artist or is juried based on the quality and originality of their work. The guest artists are nationally recognized folk and visionary artists whose powerful visual images continue to capture national and international acclaim. Annie Tolliver Turner, Lonnie Holley, Butch Anthony and Charlie Lucas are among the self-taught artists Kentuck has been honored to showcase. The Kentuck Festival of the Arts takes place the third weekend in October every year.
A Two-Day Pass is $15 per person. Daily tickets are $10 per day, per person. No admission charge for children under twelve. Festival hours are Saturday, October 16: 9a.m. - 5p.m. and Sunday, October 17: 9a.m. - 5p.m. Limited parking is available at Kentuck Park and free continuous shuttles run to the park from downtown Northport and the Northport Civic Center.
